About the Artist
A current film and media arts student at Philadelphia’s Temple University, Colette Boylan grew up outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania in the small community of Tunkhannock. At a young age she began working in poetry, fine arts, and dance, but ultimately felt the desire to work with digital art in later years. With minimal ability for artistic involvement in the community, she began teaching herself film and digital photography at the age of fifteen. It was in her explorations of such media that she discovered not only the potential of the photographic image, but that within the moving image.
Colette began her journey in cinema through what she refers to as an inevitable pull. Without any prior experience in the field, she threw herself into the wild beast of film studies as a complete novice to the topic. Beyond an artistic eye, she took a leap of faith and quickly found herself as another film student in the youth culture of Philadelphia.
Now in her third year of film education, Colette produces and identifies primarily with experimental video production and editing. In her work, she aspires to present to audiences her personal perspectives on reality through avant-garde video work by creating abstract multimedia productions. In the future she hopes to become an editor for music videos and to work for non-profit media education organizations in underdeveloped areas.
